About AIWA

AIWA is a community based Aboriginal organisation committed to improving understanding between WA Aboriginal language speakers, service providers, government, and others, working in 40 Aboriginal languages across the state and wherever WA language needs may be. Cultural protocol and respect are central to all operations, management, control, empowerment and self-determination. Through the provision of interpreting, translation, communication and training services, AIWA works to ensure Aboriginal people are not put at risk or disadvantaged due to language barriers. AIWA is the only dedicated specialist provider of Aboriginal language interpreting, translation, training, and communication services across WA.

AIWA is committed to bringing two-way understanding to interactions between WA Aboriginal language speakers and those responsible for delivering services across all fields of government and community services.

This is achieved through advocacy, development of policy, and procedures, interpreting, translating and training including service user awareness and interpreter’s skills and knowledge.

AIWA has offices in Perth and Broome, partnering support organisations across the State and communities throughout WA.
