Interpreter ACCREDITATION & SKILLS

Many of our interpreters are accredited through the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) at the paraprofessional level.

Users of our service can be confident that all interpreting is as accurate as possible and that our interpreters practise their skills according to a professional code of ethics which requires them to:

  • interpret accurately—omitting or adding nothing
  • maintain strict confidentiality
  • maintain impartiality and objectivity
  • act professionally at all times.

Many English words and western concepts have no equivalents in Indigenous languages. Indigenous interpreters are often called upon to interpret western concepts, for example in law, governance and native title matters.

In these cases, our interpreters often have to coin new phrases or borrow words from other languages to successfully complete an interpreting assignment.

Where necessary, our interpreters provide cross-cultural information to assist mutual understanding.
