about KIS

KIS has its head office in Broome at Unit 10, Broome Lotteries House, Cable Beach Road. KIS is currently operating out of Kununurra. KIS has over 100 interpreters registered for work throughout the Kimberley.

KIS is funded by eight WA State Government departments (Justice (recently divided into Attorney General and Corrections), Police, Community Development, Education & Training, Health, Housing & Works, Disability Services and Indigenous Affairs) and managed by the Department of Indigenous Affairs. KIS has also received funding from the Department of Transport and Regional Development under its Sustainable Regions Program and from the Kimberley Development Commission.

KIS is a member of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators Inc.(AUSIT) and maintains close ties with the Western Australian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (WAITI), the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd. (NAATI), and the Aboriginal Interpreter Service (AIS) in the Northern Territory.
